Clarence stroll for Killyleagh

Killyleagh YC 4 Orangefield 0

Killyleagh exorcised one of their Clarence Cup ghosts with a comfortable third round victory.

The cup tie was effectively over after just four minutes as Dee Heron’s side raced into a two-goal lead against the Division 1A basement club, ensuring there would be no repeat of one of the low points of Heron’s 14 years in charge when the Belfast side knocked the YC out of the same competition.

Killyleagh see off Killinchy charge

St. Mary’s, Killyleagh, won the Ian McDowell Memorial Salver with a 41-26 victory over the host club, Killinchy Presbyterians, in the final on Saturday night.

On the first run of the mats Will Dornan got the home club off to a good start against Kieran McMullan and led 7-2 after 7 ends. But Kieran’s rink won the last three ends, collecting five shots in the process, to earn his team a draw.

On the other mat home skip Alex Jellie guided his rink to a great 10-8 victory over Paddy Murray after being 8-6 down after seven ends. This gave Killinchy a 17-15 lead at the interval.

After four ends of the second half Killinchy had extended their lead to five shots. Home skip Tom Gibson led 4-2 against David Boal and Ernest Kenmore led 4-3 against Tony Ward.

However, this was as good as it got for Killinchy.

St. Mary’s upped a gear and restricted Killinchy to just one more shot over the two rinks.

David Boal defeated Tom Gibson 10-5 while on the other mat Tony Ward secured victory for St. Mary’s with a resounding 16-4 victory over Ernest Kenmore.

The final score was 41-26 in favour of St. Mary’s but all the Killinchy bowlers should be proud of their performance.

John McDowell, son of the late Ian McDowell, presented the salver to Philip Woodside, captain of St. Mary’s, Killyleagh.

Killyleagh end 2006 on a winning note

Killyleagh YC 4 Barn United 2

Killyleagh ended 2006 on a winning note. Two goals from Hugh Ross, two days before the start of the New Year, made it a good end to the year for YC manager Dee Heron.

Heron’s side showed four changes from the team that failed to sparkle before Christmas in the draw with Malachians.

They got off to a lightning start and could have been three goals up in the first ten minutes. Willie McIlroy was twice denied and then Dale Davidson forced an outstanding save from the Barn keeper who was happy to get a hand to the 35 yard effort and see it bounce to safety off the crossbar.

The pressure had to tell and it was McIlroy who claimed the opener, getting the final touch on Ross’ right wing delivery.

Within minutes it was 2-0 as Ross finished off a superb move involving Neil Young and Ross Williams.

Barn were thrown a lifeline on the half hour mark after a cheap free kick was conceded and the ball was scrambled home.

Within minutes Killyleagh replied with the goal of the game. So much of their best play came down the flanks and it was no surprise when Ross was again the provider from the right with a pinpoint cross that Peter Gilgunn headed superbly into the net.

At the start of the second half YC keeper Alan Young pulled off a brilliant save to deny the visitors.

Remarkably Barn reduced the leeway in the 65th minute when the ref ruled there had been a handling offence in the Killyleagh area. Young was unable to stop Wade making it 3-2.

Any thoughts of a revival were quickly stubbed out when the YC made it 4-2 – also from the penalty spot. Hugh Ross was the man on target before he eventually limped off.

Sub Brian Strain had a glorious chance to make it five before the finish after another radar-like cross from Williams on the right but his header skimmed the bar.

At the opposite end Mark Murray ensured there would be no dramatic finale as he stood tall at the heart of the Killyleagh defence with two good clearing headers, ensuring Young had a relatively comfortable day between the sticks.

Killyleagh clinch derby clash

Comber Rec 1 Killyleagh YC 2

Killyleagh claimed the honours in what was the first top-of-the-table derby encounter between the teams in almost a decade.

Midfielders Neil Young and Ross Williamson were the stars in a stunning performance by Dee Heron’s side against a team that has been tipped to pick up honours this season.

The victory is all the more remarkable after Heron was forced to start without three of his first choice side following late cry-offs by Willie McIlroy, John Murray and Philip Crawford.

It meant a first start for new signing Paul Sheeran in attack alongside Dale Davidson, and Sheeran’s pace caused problems, indicating he will be a more than useful signing.

It was the outstanding performance of the midfield pairing of Young and Williamson which set the foundations for victory. They prevented Comber from getting on top and for the third week in the row it was midfielder Peter Gilgunn who found the back of the net for Killyleagh to ease them into a fully deserved half-time lead.

There were a number of other half-chances for Killyleagh with Sheeran hitting the side netting after good work from Barry Walsh.

Jim McCloskey pulled a goal back for the home side early in the second half and they threatened to rally, but the YC back line of Kevin Savage, Sammy Wallace, Johnny Holland and Dominic McGreevy held firm to provide Brian Burgess with all the protection he needed.

Comber could have no complaints when the Youth Club regained their lead. The keeper made a real hash of Davidson’s corner kick and somehow the ball ended in the net to make it 2-1.

Sheeran then carved out a fine chance and did everything right as he raced through, only to see the ball strike the keeper and bounce to safety.

There was a nervous last 10 minutes for Heron’s side but they played like a team with a point to prove to earn their first victory at Parkway since 2002. It was a good win, especially after the injustice of the previous week’s controversial defeat at the hands of Dunmurry Rec.

How decisive will this result be for both teams at the end of the season? Defeat at the hands of league leaders Killyleagh pushed Comber down into third place in the Premier Section but they are a long way from being rule out of the race.

This weekend the focus switches to the Irish Cup and the visit of First Division kingpins Dundela. Killyleagh will revel in the underdog’s tag, fully aware that victory would earn them a place with the big boys of the Irish League in the fifth round in January.

Portaferry survived a torrid battle with a ten-man Killyleagh side before booking their spot in the semi-finals of the U-17 League Cup.

Dean McComb, Jonathan Sharvin, Jason Heron, Jordan Kennedy and Niall Walsh played well for Killyleagh with Declan McManus, Aaron O’Prey, Chris Conlon, Chris Toner and Conor Gilmore starring for the Ports.

Walsh wonder goal secures Killyleagh win in Fermanagh

Ballinamallard 2 Killyleagh YC 3

A stunning late goal from Barry Walsh had Killyleagh dreaming of Irish Cup glory again.

Walsh struck in the 75th minute with a wonderful volley from all of 20 yards to seal the win for Dee Heron’s side.

Killyleagh returned to the scene of one of their most memorable victories when in 200 they beat Ballinamallard to earn an Irish Cup visit to Linfield.

Both sides have changed quite dramatically in the intervening years, but this repeat victory was fully deserved against the Irish League First Division side and made the long journey home, at the end of a round trip of 190 miles, well worthwhile.

Heron changed his formation again and although they did not get on the scoresheet, it was the forward pairing of Neil Young and John Murray who did so much to help carve out this win.

The YC got off to the best possible start when Peter Gilgunn fired in after six minutes, finishing a clever pass from Dale Davidson.

However, Killyleagh failed to build on this platform and their dominance of possession in the opening half hour and they were made to pay when the home side took advantage of a mix-up between goalkeeper and defence for McFarland to grab an equaliser in the 40th minute.

The home side could not believe their luck and at the start of the second half they took the game to Killyleagh, making it 2-1 when Mark Stafford scored from a corner in the 60th minute.

Killyleagh levelled within minutes when Davidson ghosted clear in the penalty area and fired across goal from the left.

That set the scene for a dramatic finale. Enter Walsh stage right in the 75th minute. When the home defence headed weakly out he unleashed a stunning volley from 20 yards for a goal worth winning any tie.

If Killyleagh’s love affair with the cup is to continue they must overcome a trickier assignment in the next round at home to old rivals Dundela.

Carson on the bench

Killyleagh’s Trevor Carson was on the Sunderland bench when the Stadium of Light side drew 1-1 against Southampton. Trevor has impressed new manager Roy Keane with a series of brilliant saves with the club’s second string.

Killyleagh show steel

Killyleagh YC 1 Knockbreda 0

A superb defensive display provided the foundation to earn Killyleagh three precious league points.

Seasoned observers of Killyleagh’s pre-season friendlies believed a season of struggle could be ahead but thanks to sterling defensive performances from players like Andy McMenamin and Dominic McGreevy, Killyleagh have won games like this one on Saturday.

This was the third meeting between the clubs in the space of six weeks and for the third time it was the YC who came out on top.

But once again they had to do it the hard way with stand-in manager Philip Jennings having to ring the changes with Dale Davidson joining Neil Young, Gavin Heron and Stephen Rogan on the list of missing.

Both sides hit the woodwork in the opening 10 minutes. Second-placed Knockbreda, buoyed by a 4-1 win the previous week over Kilmore, were out of luck when Peter Hinds’ effort rattled the crossbar. Within seconds Killyleagh’s Hugh Ross provided an action replay at the opposite goal when he struck Barry Walsh’s pass too sweetly.

Walsh and Kevin Savage had a lot of joy in the opening period and with McMenamin and Peter Gilgunn prompting and pushing, the YC dominated without creating too many goalmouth chances.

In the 39th minute Gordon Leckey had a chance from McGreevy’s throw but he screwed wide and then on the stroke of half-time Leckey was denied by a stunning save when he got his head to Ross’ cross.

It looked as if it could be one of those days again when despite playing well, Killyleagh would get nothing out of the game.

In the early stages of the second half Killyleagh pinned Knockbreda back and in a five-minute spell Leckey was inches wide, Ross had a drive just over and the Gilgunn pulled out a superb volley after good work from Willie McIlroy.

The pressure finally told on the hour when Leckey did what he has been doing so well this season, finishing clinically from Savage’s pass to make it 1-0.

Killyleagh chased the insurance goal, with the superb Johnny Holland and Philip Crawford playing virtually as wing backs. McIlroy headed over when he did well to get on the end of another neat Savage delivery and then Leckey miss hit when well placed.

Inevitably Knockbreda hit back and with eight minutes remaining it took a brilliant defensive block from McGreevy to deny a certain goal.

It was Breda’s last throw of the dice and Walsh carved out a late opening for Leckey. However, he was out of luck in trying to ensure the final score line more accurately reflected the balance of play.

Olympic went on to hit the woodwork three times, but they were unable to snatch an equaliser. Nathan Jones and Johnny Hall had exceptional games for Ballynahinch with Andrew Gourley, Jordan Kennedy, Steven Henry and Dean Montgomery forming the backbone of Killyleagh.

Killyleagh YC 3 Islandmagee 1

Another three points for Killyleagh to keep them top of the Premier Section. But Dee Heron’s side made heavy work of disposing of the side currently rooted to the bottom of the league table.

There was a sombre start to proceedings at The Showgrounds on Saturday as players from both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of Annalee Young, as a tribute to YC striker Neil Young.

Killyleagh spurned a number of good chances and it was two minutes before the interval before they finally made the breakthrough. Centre half Dominic McGreevy was the man on target.

All seemed to be going according to script in the early stages of the second half, but a misplaced pass and misunderstanding in midfield led to an opening which Islandmagee gratefully accepted for the equaliser.

Within minutes Killyleagh were back in the lead. Dale Davidson was the creator when he cracked the offside trap and laid the ball back for Hugh Ross to smash in his third goal in as many games and give Killyleagh a 2-1 lead.

Sub Gordon Leckey provided the insurance goal just before the end, but Killyleagh know they will face more difficult games than this before the year is out.

Rathfern Rangers II 5 Killyleagh YC II 4

Killyleagh YC seconds manager Paul Sharvin was furious after his side lost this controversial game despite leading 4-1 at one stage.

Early goals from John Murray (2) and a cracker from Derek Armitage gave Killyleagh a 3-1 first half lead and well on their way to three points.

When Murray completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half the visitors looked home and hosed.

However, the referee, who hadn’t been appointed to take charge of the game, awarded Rathfern two penalties inside the space of 30 seconds to give the home side a lifeline.

To make matters worse the referee then sent off Mark Murray and Gavin Murray was carried off after receiving a hefty tackle.

The home side could do no wrong and they hit a controversial winner in the last few minutes of the game.

Killyleagh have lodged an official complaint to the Amateur League in a bid to getting this result overturned.

Killyleagh caught out by Breda

Knockbreda II’s 1 Killyleagh II’s 0

Killyleagh registered their first league loss of the season crashing out on a one goal margin despite dominating for large portions of the game.

Killyleagh had no less than seven clear cut chances in the first half, which should have seen them romp home with a decisive win. But no matter what they attempted, the elusive goal never came.

Two minutes into play a Charlie Holland throw found ex-Knockbreda player Ross Williams whose shot was saved by the keeper and put out for a corner.

On five minutes Williams had a 25 yard free. With the keeper beaten the ball rebounded off the upright and came out to Gavin Murray who sent it just wide.

A Daryl Heaney free from inside the Killyleagh half found the head of Sydney Montgomery. The Knockbreda keeper was forced to make a great save and put the ball out for a corner.

A great individual effort by Williams on 15 minutes forced the on-form home keeper into another super save.

Williams found the ball on the left and danced his way around three defenders before rifling at the Knockbreda goal.

A cross-field pass from the Knockbreda right back to the left back was disposed by Sydney Montgomery who ran half the pitch. Again the keeper pulled off a great save from the short range effort.

Before the half concluded there were further missed chances by Derek Armitage and Peter Kelly in a half which saw Knockbreda create no chances.

With only 20 seconds of the second half gone Knockbreda scored the winner. A long ball down the left hand side was sent over the top of the Killyleagh defence and crossed in to the edge of the box where it was dispatched past goalkeeper Alan Young.

Five minutes later Killyleagh were thrown into disarray as Young had to come off after twisting his knee.

Chasing the lead and minus the influential Young, Killyleagh threw everything at Knockbreda but couldn’t get the equaliser.

Killyleagh get revenge and move clear at top

Killyleagh YC 3 Knockbreda 1

Killyleagh moved clear at the top of the Amateur League’s Premier Section as they maintained their best ever start to a season since 1960.

It was midfielder Hugh Ross who was the unlikely match winner on Saturday, grabbing two goals to secure victory and maintain the unbeaten league start for Dee Heron’s side.

This was the second meeting between the teams in the space of three weeks, but unlike the last Steel Cup encounter, it was the YC who dominated the early exchanges, despite missing Dale Davidson, John Murray, and Johnny Holland from their ranks.

Kevin Savage went closest early on, while Gordon Leckey was also unlucky after a superb approach play when the hard working and highly impressive Neil Young linked with Barry Walsh.

Killyleagh suffered a setback when they lost Willie McIlroy after a late tackle. Substitute Ross Williams, back at the club and making his first appearance of the season, created the opening goal with almost his first touch of the ball in the 29th minute. His stunning free kick from 25yards was superbly saved, but Leckey showed all his predatory skills to follow up and make it 1-0.

Within two minutes Young seemed to have doubled the lead. His shot appeared to have crossed the line but, not for the first time this season, the decision went against Killyleagh and Knockbreda could not believe their luck.

The pattern of the game was then turned by an off-the-ball incident which angered the home crowd. There was poetic justice when Knockbreda’s Peter Hinds was the man who, within seconds of the restart, slammed to the net to make it 1-1 in the 43rd minute.

Killyleagh were not to be denied though. Prompted by Young and the peerless Andy McMenamin they deserved to regain the lead in the 53rd minute.

Williams’ quick free caused chaos and when it fell to Dominic McGreevy he cracked a shot off the upright. In the next attack Williams’ rocket was blocked with the keeper seemingly beaten.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 63d minute. McMenamin’s free kick was met by Young and when his shot was blocked on the line, it eventually fell to Ross who unleashed a thunderous volley to make it 2-1.

Young, who seemed to be everywhere, then weaved an opening and run, but Leckey was unlucky not to get a finishing touch before Killyleagh made the points safe in the 80th minute.

Walsh was bundled over in the penalty area and although the ref waved play on, when the ball fell to Gavin Heron the same thing happened again and this time the ref blew, seconds before Leckey thumped it into the net. It was disallowed and the penalty awarded. Ross made no mistake from the spot kick.

At the death Leckey was unlucky not to make it four when he was denied by two frantic blocks after Williams and Walsh had created an opening.

It is still a very early stage of the season but in games like this last year, Killyleagh would invariably have ended up drawing.

The only sour note is that Killyleagh, who over the years have had some of the best and most sporting supporters within amateur football, are, on the evidence of a number of incidents in recent months, in danger of picking up another unwanted tag altogether.

U-15 League

Killyleagh 1 Portaferry 7

Portaferry were much too strong for Killyleagh and ran out comfortable winners. Strikes from Callum Boyle (2), Mark Miskelly (2), Matt Rogers, Matt Miskelly and Aiden O’Neill gave the Ports an emphatic victory. Scott Grieves scored a consolation goal for Killyleagh.

Brendan Byers, Matthew Conlon, Neil Orr and Cormac Watson impressed for Portaferry with only Ryan Williams, Adam McClurg, Gary O’Prey and Scott Grieves showing up well for Killyleagh.

DYFL U-17 League

Killyleagh 2 Portaferry 0

Killyleagh produced a commanding performance to get the better of an understrength Portaferry. Jordan Kennedy broke the deadlock with a brilliant free kick as Killyleagh started to grow in confidence. Gary Morrison made sure of the points when he netted Killyleagh’s insurance goal from close range.

Conor Gilmore, Patrick McNally, Aaron O’Prey and Josh Gilmore defended well for Portaferry with Danny Rea, Dean McComb, Niall Walsh and Gary Morrison featuring for Killyleagh.

Healy holds the hammer

Killyleagh celebrates as favourite son scores the goal that secures win for Northern Ireland over England

The score line should have read Killyleagh 1 England 0.

It was the greatest night in the recent history of Northern Ireland football – and it was all down to one man and one moment of magic.

On 74 minutes the ball landed at the feet of David Healy outside the England penalty area on the right side. One touch and then bang. His right footed rocket burned the fingers of England keeper Paul Robinson and screamed into the net. So much for Bend it Like Beckham. There was no stopping the Healy Hammer.

It was the first time in 25 years that Northern Ireland scored a goal against the English, a first victory in 33 years and the first home win in 78 years. Incredibly the last Northern Ireland man to score against England also happened to come from Killyleagh – Middlesborough’s Terry Cochrane netted in a 1-1 draw at Wembley during the 1980 Home International Championship.

Ballykinlar 4:08 Killyleagh 8:11

Killyleagh U-12’s had an impressive win over Ballykinlar on Monday night (4th July). Fielding a weakened team due to holidays etc. the boys in blue surprised the opposition with their talent and were on top in the majority of positions of the park.

The midfield pair of Kieran Sullivan and Thomas Hughes ruled supreme, managing to cleanly catch most of the kick outs and build a lot of attacks with some excellent passes. Kieran managed to accumulate a tally of 3 goals and 4 points while Thomas sent over 2 points.

The speedy Gary O’Prey was in his usual great form weaving his way through the Ballykinlar defence to score 1 goal and 4 points as well as creating a lot of the other scores.

One of the smallest players on the Killyleagh team, Caolin Manchester showed enormous skill and intelligence when finding space and delivering the ball into the full forward line. He also got a well deserved goal for his efforts. Gary Murray electing to play in goals was also outstanding. He saved a penalty and at least 3 shots from point blank range.

Newcomer Jamie Morrow suffered a few teething problems in the first half, however in the second half he quickly adapted and skilfully assisted the midfield and forwards.

Playing at right full forward and only making the team because of the high number of absentees, Carl Vaughan fooled the Ballykinlar keeper to trickle the ball over the line to the delight of the Killyleagh supporters.

Other players to note were defenders Lee O’Pey, Jonathan Campbell and Daniel McGreevy who closed down a lot of the home team’s attacks.

Killyleagh Team: Gary Murray, Daniel McGreevy, Jonathan Campbell, Patrick Bennett, Dylan Vaughan, Lee O’Prey (0-1), Jamie Morrow, Kieran Sullivan (3-04, Thomas Hughes (0-2), Caolin Manchester (1-0), Christopher Sullivan (1-0), Gary O’Prey (1-05), Shane Campbell, Aisling Walsh (1-02) and Carl Vaughan (1-0).

Summer League

27/06/2005

GIRL power was the theme of the night at the Killyleagh Summer League.

With the YC ladies team hitting impressive new heights in only their second season in operation, the organisers of the league are keen to have as many young girls taking part in the coaching sessions, aimed at introducing young people to soccer.

From the youngest participants - Katie Cheevers and Ellie Medwell - in the minor section right through, the girls more than held their own at The Showgrounds last Wednesday night.

The junior girl with the golden boots this week was Catherine Beston who was unbeatable from the penalty spot and emerged as penalty queen.

Sarah Heaney (2), Jessica Kirk (2), Rachel Bentley, Megan Kirk, Rebecca Geddis and Amy Murray were the other hot shots in the open games. Other stars on the night were Beverley Kirk, Tori Clydesdale and Katie Strain.

SENIORS

Jake Robinson was the player in unstoppable form in the senior section, rattling in an impressive seven goals.

Jamie Morrow was one goal behind but he proved when it comes to taking penalties, he is a real ace as for the third week out of four he claimed the title of penalty king. Ryan Montgomery was another in hot form, slamming in five goals. Stevie Ferguson and Michael Geddis were also on form, grabbing two goals each.

Other scorers were Josh Cheevers, Conor Noble, Jamie Sharvin, Christopher Curran-Cochrane, Andrea McComb, Rebecca Morrison, John Kirk, Mark Smith and Liam Copeland.

JUNIORS

Brad Kirk and Craig Garrett emerged as penalty kings in the two competitions in the junior section. Runner-up was Andrew Curran-Cochrane.

In open play Craig Garrett was top scorer with six goals, with Andrew Curran-Cochrane impressing with a three goal contribution. Conor Geddis was on target twice, with the other goals coming from Keaton Sullilvan, Brad Kirk and Brandon Morrow.

Also in impressive form were Scott Nelson, Conor Gordon, Ethan Jennings, Brian Macklin, Josh Taylor and Stephen Kirk.

MINORS

Two well known footballing names claimed the honours in the minor section penalty king competition, with Jack Sharvin and Bradford McClurg each claiming the shoot-out titles in the two competitions held.

In open play Mark Smith was the player in form, bagging a remarkable six goals. Jack Sharvin (3), Peter Russell (2) and Mark Murray (2) were also on form around goal.

There were single goals from Jake Bennett-Knox, Keegan Rice, Joel Medwell and Dylan McKenna. Also playing an important part in their team's performance were Katie Cheevers, Ellie Medwell, Dawson Morrow and Bradford McClurg.

The league continues at The Showgrounds at 7.15pm tonight. In the event of heavy rain, games will be postponed.

Parents are reminded that children should wear shin-guards and should complete a registration form.

Next week the league will switch to Thursday night, July 7. There will be an earlier start time so that children can take part in games ahead of the charity match between Killyleagh YC and Glenavon, which kicks off at 7.30pm.

Six Up for the ‘YC’

Islandmagee 2 Killyleagh YC 2

A performance of mammoth proportions saw Dee Heron and his YC team confound a lot of people when they successfully retained their Amateur League title with this draw against Islandmagee. The roller coaster of a day saw Islandmagee take a 23rd minute lead through Craig Ogilvie. The ‘Magee keeper, Ian Lester, produced an unforgettable save to deny a goal bound effort from Barry Walsh. Lester then produced a better save as he denied Barry Holland. The YC pressure soon paid dividends when Cliftonville bound Mark Holland cancelled out the home side’s lead. With the first half well into injury time, the travelling supporters were silenced when ‘Magee scored for a second time to take a half time lead. After the restart YC then went for broke and forced several corners in quick succession. As time marched on, tensions mounted and as each YC attack was launched the end result seemed to be beyond their reach. With 3 minutes left the tension turned to unbridled joy as substitute Colin Murray fired in his trademark cross and found Mark Holland who made no mistake in scoring the equaliser. As the referee played out the final 2 minutes of time added on, his whistle signalled the end of the match and confirmed YC as champions for the sixth time in succession.

Killyleagh 4:08 Ballykinlar 4:14

Killyleagh U-14 gaelic footballers played host to Ballykinlar at Wolf Tone Park on Thursday evening. The conditions were perfect and both teams served up some great football.

It was Ballykinlar who were first on the score sheet with a point from Anthony Mageean. This was quickly followed by a second from the other midfielder, Sean O’Rourke. Killyleagh gained procession from the kick out and the ball was passed to Conor Perry who slotted it over the bar to register the home teams first score. The Ballykinlar midfield pair were dominant and recorded another point each before Jamie Beattie fired over a great point for Killyleagh. A close range goal from Ballykinlars full forward put the visitors five points clear but Conor Perry reduced the deficit with a well taken goal from a very tight angle. Ballykinlar retaliated with two more points and two goals but the Killyleagh lads did not give up as Jamie Beattie and Scott Grieves got a goal apiece to leave the score 3:02 to 3:06 in Ballykinlars favour at half time.

Ballykinlar started the second half with two points from Mageean who was given easy runs through the Killyleagh defence. But this was reciprocated by Scott Grieves who weaved his way to the 13 metre line and put the ball over the bar on two occasions. Killyleagh’s Dean McCombe made a forward move and recorded his first score with a high ball between the posts. Another goal from Scott Grieves and a point off the ground from substitute Aisling Walsh brought the sides level with 15 minutes to go. Although Jonathan Sharvin was having an excellent game at centre full back he was moved to midfield in an attempt to break down the Ballykinlar midfield following an unanswered tally of 5 points and a goal. He managed to set up Conor Perry and Scott Grieves for a point each but unfortunately Ballylinlar equalled this and added three more points to their tally.

The Killyleagh management must be proud and delighted with this performance against a team who have two players playing for the U-14 County Panel.

This Killyleagh team has improved immensely since the start of the season and with a bit more training and practice it should produce some stars for the future.

Team:- Jonathan Sharvin, Jonathan Campbell, Patrick Bennett, Steven Henry, Ryan McGreevy, Lee O’Prey, Jamie Beattie, Dean McCombe, Conor Pe
