Treesacrowd, Clarke Cunningham Tree Maintenance - Best Team, Best Mixed Team

Killyleagh Company Repels Viking Invaders!

On Sunday 14th May, during the Magnus Barelegs Festival, history has made by local tree surgery company, Clarke Cunningham Tree Maintenance Ltd., when they won the Viking long boat race, the first Ulster crew to do so in the history of the festival.

Their team, appropriately named “Treesacrowd”, were comprised of managers, climbing arborists, Lorry drivers and grounds staff along with Clarke Cunningham himself who insisted he be involved with this local community festival. Also in the team was local women Kim Kirk, who not only helped bring about the victory, but also was the key member who helped secure the mixed team winners trophy as well!

On their way to the winners podium “Treesacrowd” won races against the “Bareleg Hackers” Killyleagh Ladies Football team, and “Killyleagh Castle” team before meeting last years winners, “Peel Young Vikings”, from the Isle of Man in a tense final.

“Treesacrowd” captain, General Manger Gareth Casement commented that this famous victory was down to good team work and rhythmic rowing, as well as a very quick “Handbrake turn” around the marker buoy. Despite the poor weather, local people turned out to support the teams and “Treesacrowd” certainly had good local encouragement which certainly was a factor in their win.
