In an age of environmental awareness and growing concerns about pollutants, it seems ironical that it is nearly impossible to source good, eco friendly cleaning products in the Killyleagh locality.

Safeway's supermarket did stock a limited range of Ecover products, until its take over by Morrison's chain the latter of which subsequently took it off their shelves.

During this period of drought I decided to try and find another, more reliable source locally.

Local supermarkets, although keen to stock it, were unable to source the product at the wholesalers.

This problem transpired to be widespread, with companies like Ecover only supplying the larger chains.  (A little odd!)

Undeterred, I then, quite by chance discovered that The Pheasant Hill Farm Shop outside Downpatrick acts as an agent for Ecover.  They stock a full range of products in their Comber shop, but will happily take orders from their shop in Downpatrick.

The added advantage, is that you can order in bulk.  For example, a 5L container of washing up liquid.  This not only saves you money, but also reduces waste.

Their Range Includes:

• Washing up liquid (very mild and gentle)
• Toilet cleaner (Good Strong citrus smell)
• Multi surface cleaner
• Eco spray
• Floor Cleaner (excellent for wooden floors.  Contains lanolin)
• Liquid hand soap (Lavender.  Very Nice)
• Washing powder
• Washing tablets (not that good)
• Washing liquid (Good for sensitive Skins)
• Laundry bleach
• Fabric Softener
• Dishwasher tablets

If you do not want to buy in large quantities, why not club together with friends and put in a bulk order that way.

A friend has recently informed me that Morrison's are now restocking Ecover.  They will only keep doing so if the demand is there.

So, if you have a septic tank, care for your health and environment, why not give Ecover products a try.
