St Mary's Star of the Sea

Located in Irish Street on the way down to the shore, St Mary's chapel is a distinctive modern design, deceptively larger than the first impression of the exterior would suggest.

This present chapel, opened in 1975 is next to the former church built in 1861 which is still in use as a parish community hall. That church in turn replaced the original small church of 1831, which had accommodated up to 180 people.

The church was previously part of Kilmore parish and only recently established (1994) as a parish in its own right, with Fr Sean Cahill, a former parishioner, as the first parish priest.

The present P.P. is Rev. Paul Strain, who retains his role as chaplain with deaf people in the diocese of Down and Connor.

The parish is a warm Christian community, growing along with the wider Killyleagh society, and we welcome you to visit and share in the life of Christ among us.
