What Killyleagh Baptist Chuch Believes?

Trinity - One God in three equal persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Trust - All Church members have put personal trust (Ephesians 1: 15) in Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation. Paul could say in Romans 1: 16, ‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.’ Members have been baptised by immersion (The Greek word baptizo = immersion).

Teaching - Systematically teach from the Bible, using the K.J.V. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will soon come to the air for His Church (2Thess.4.) and only those who have repented and believed in Him alone will go to Heaven. The believer immediately goes to Heaven at death (2 Corinthians 5: 8 - ‘absent from the body…present with the Lord’) or when the Lord returns again. Colossians 1: 18 tells us that Christ ‘is the head of the body, the Church’ and not any earthly man. Gifts of preaching and teaching are encouraged.

Table - Every first day of the week (Sunday / Lord's Day - 11.30 to 12noon), held in the Church. The Lord's Table / Communion, is for believers only. However, unsaved can be present, but not participate. Sunday should be a day of rest from all unnecessary work.

Team - All our members are converted / born again and work together as a team. They have a responsibility to attend if possible all the meetings and find some useful task to do.

Tell - Each member is expected to be a witness of the saving and keeping power of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 1: 8 - Jesus said, ‘Ye shall be witnesses unto Me’.). One of our members Miss Nancy Gill is a missionary in Indonesia and other members are actively involved in local evangelism.

Tithe - All members voluntary give their tithe (1/10). This is a biblical practice to support the local Church and other Bible based work (Malachi 3: 8 -‘Will a man rob God?…in tithes and offerings’ and Hebrews 7: 5 ‘Take tithes of the people’ etc).

Our Aim

To bring the Gospel to all people of Killyleagh and surrounding district, so that they turn from their sins and trust Lord Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. Once the sinner is converted, they should obey the Lord in baptism (only immersion in the Bible e.g. Acts 2: 41 - ‘Then they that gladly received His word were baptised’.), Church membership, teaching., fellowship, communion and prayers (Acts 2: 41-42). Our local Church is a friendly and inviting place. We aim to make you welcome and our prayer is that all who hear the Gospel message will respond. When a sinner comes to Jesus, ‘He will in no wise cast out’ (John 6: 37). The Lord Jesus Christ is the only mediator - ‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’ (Acts 4: 12). His death on the cross was complete for all our sins and He paid the ransom that sinners can be forgiven (Jesus cried from the cross, ‘It is finished’ - John 19: 30). We do not believe that the bread and wine (communion), turns into the actual body and blood of Christ. Believers take the bread and the cup every Sunday morning, to remember that Christ died 2,000 years ago on the cross for our sins (‘For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew (preach) the Lord's death till He come.’ - 1 Corinthians 11: 26). At the Lord's table, we thank the Saviour for taking away our sins and we know this happened at the moment of our conversion (‘The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.’ - Romans 8: 16).

Our Biblical Seperation

Our Baptist Church has no links with the World Council of Churches or the false ecumenical movement. For this reason we do not participate in the unbiblical ‘Alpha Course’ or ‘Power to Change’ etc. However, we are happy to co-operate with other evangelical Churches that do not compromise the Gospel. Our aim is to please the one who died, rose again and is coming back soon. Jesus said that He was the only way to the Father - ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.’ - John 14: 6. We believe that all sinners need to be saved and no one can earn their way to Heaven by good works or religious activities - Titus 3: 5-7 - ‘Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified (cleared of all guilt) by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.’ We read in Ephesians 5; 7-11 - ‘Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.’ Also in 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 - ‘This know also, that in the last days perilous (dangerous) times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves...Having a form of godliness (religion), but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.’

Welcome

The meetings are designed to help you and your family to find the only true meaning in life (Jesus said, ‘I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.’ - John 10: 10). Jesus also quoted John 3 and verse 16; this is often referred to as a summary of the Bible or the Bible in a nutshell - ‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’
