Viking Boat Race 2005 - Thanks
[ You are here: Viking Boat Race > Thanks ]
A big thank you to everyone who made the 2005 Killyleagh Viking Boat Festival a huge success. The 24 teams that marched and rowed, the thousands of people who came into the town and the bands and cheerleaders who helped form a spectacular Parade, all made Race Day very special. The crafters who sold their wares and the vintage car drivers who put on an excellent show further added to a great event.
The Magnus parties at the Show Grounds were also a great experience. Many thanks to the Killyleagh YFC who hosted the events and worked so hard to make them memorable for all involved. The Magnus and Bergen Vikings who made the funeral procession so poignant and the funeral pyre spectacular at these events deserve special praise, as do the KSP members who risked life and limb to bring us the eulogy.
Our partners in the event, the Magnus Vikings, made so much possible by applying their knowledge and enthusiasm, friendlier Vikings one could never wish to meet! Their appearance in Viking costume brought authenticity to the event and their boats sailing across Killyleagh harbour will be remembered forever.
Without sponsorship and support this event wouldn’t have happened. We would like to thank our major sponsors Nationwide and Peninsula Print, as well as to everyone who made a contribution. We also thank Down District Council for their encouragement and support.
The Winners of the event this year, The Peel Young Vikings Again, also donated a trophy for the fastest mixed team. We thank the lads for this generous act and look forward to seeing them next year.
Special thanks to the KSP organising committee who worked hard to make the event the success it was. We built an amazing team this year that will deliver even better things in the future! Why not come and join us?
Thanks also to the media who worked in partnership with us to bring some splendid coverage of what was a truly memorable event for Killyleagh and Down. Particular thanks to David at the Down Recorder, Terence at the Mourne Observer and Jason at the Newtownards Chronicle. Also thanks to George Jones and his team from BBC Radio Ulster for the Friday Programme and Candy Devine and her team from Downtown Radio for the programme from the park. Many thanks also to the BBC Yellow Bus which came to Killyleagh on Friday and Saturday.
